Kusi Ampem Darko (NANA YAW ANANSE): A Visionary Artist Championing Environmental Sustainability and Social Change Born in Adanwomase, Kumasi, Ghana, Kusi Ampem Darko, affectionately known as NANA YAW ANANSE, is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and activist dedicated to harnessing the transformative power of art to promote environmental sustainability, social justice, and community empowerment.
Ananse’s academic pursuits have equipped him with a robust foundation in art, education, and social justice. His educational background includes: Winneba University of Education - Bachelor of Arts in Art Education.
Columbia University: Certificate in Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
University of Ghana, Legon: Master’s degree in Performing Arts, specializing in Theater and Choreography - Ph.D. Candidate in African Studies, University of Ghana, Legon.
He is currently pursuing his doctoral studies, focusing on African cultures, identities, and sustainable development. As an artist committed to environmental sustainability and social justice, Ananse has worked extensively in community engagement and education. He has designed and implemented programs that promote creative expression, environmental awareness, and social responsibility, empowering individuals and communities to become active agents of change.
